SCROLL DOWN

Jon

Having a lifelong interest in stone, Jon commenced his stone work career in 2005. His quest for constant development has found him actively pursuing opportunities to gain experience, knowledge and formal training in dry and mortared stone work.

With a personal passion for dry stone walls and features, he is an ardent advocate for the use of dry stone construction techniques as an environmentally sensitive alternative to regular construction methods. In addition to the eco benefits are the longevity, history, and aesthetics of dry stone work.

Jon is a Level 2 Certified Waller with the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain, professional member of the Dry Stone Walls Association of Australia and instructs DSWAA dry stone walling workshops.

Ant

Ant

Ever since he was a kid, Ant has loved building just about anything from rocks and stones, a hobby which did not grow old even as he did. This inherent love of stone first led him to join JRM in 2013 during which time he developed an affection for using Carey Gully Sandstone. Whilst he went on to tackle the traditional building industry for a few years, his bond with stone eventually drew him back to JRM where he once again gets to spend his days building things from a pile of stone, albeit on a very different scale.

Anthony is on his way to achieving his DSWA GB Level 1 and is looking forward to joining the peak body of craftsmen honouring the trade.

“The satisfaction of seeing a project completed using traditional, age old methods of masonry to create contemporary, modern designs, is deeply rewarding and something I am proud to tell my son about.”

Paddy

Paddy

Raised in Adelaide’s southern hills landscape, Paddy hails from a lineage of Dutch bricklayers who passed on an interest in heritage craft skills and all things old and structured.

Whilst originally training as a teacher, he was drawn into the history of stonemasonry by the understanding that what we build today can outlive multiple generations and stay standing, irrespective of the forces of nature at play around it.

Having passed up teaching and his golden opportunity to subject a generation of school children to his endless ‘dad jokes’, Paddy has joined JRM full time and is honing his skills whilst enjoying the meditative nature of stonework, helping to create beautiful works which fit with the environment upon which they stand.

Paddy has special interest in building with sandstone and intends to specialise in dry stone bridge building and traditional cobblestone laying.

“Stone is timeless, having been in the ground for thousands of years before our hands touch it. Using this product to create something that is both beautiful and useful is a great feeling”.

Shane

Shane

After moving to SA in 2020 to be closer to his family, Shane set about finding a job which utilised his diverse and plentiful qualifications, whilst allowing him to be in close proximity to the local boat ramp, on the off chance that perfect fishing weather presented itself on a Friday afternoon.

His joining the JRM team has been fortuitous for all, as he is able to draw on his military background to fight a constant battle with dust to keep the depot in pristine order, his heavy vehicle driving skills to deliver the equipment and material required to to make work sites tick, his mining operation safety knowledge to ensure every piece of equipment is in working order, his chef skills to cook a mean BBQ, and his jovial humour and persistent smile to keep us all laughing through rain, hail and shine. The boat ramp is also only 10 minutes away.

“The prospect of adventure drew me to SA and I am lucky enough to get paid to drive a truck around the most scenic places in the state, scoping out wineries, restaurants and beaches whilst learning about geology”.
